Applications are now open for Italy’s 2026 “newborn bonus,” a one-off €1,000 payment designed to help families cover the initial costs associated with the arrival of a child. The measure applies to households welcoming a baby during 2026 through birth, adoption, or pre-adoptive foster care, with the aim of providing immediate financial support in the first months of family life.

To qualify, applicants must be residents in Italy. Non-EU citizens are required to hold a valid residence permit. On the financial side, eligibility is limited to families with an ISEE (equivalent economic situation indicator) not exceeding €40,000. Applicants must submit their request within 120 days of the child’s birth or entry into the family in the case of adoption. After this deadline, the benefit can no longer be claimed.

Applications can be submitted online via the INPS website, through the INPS mobile app, or with assistance from authorised patronage services and call centres. The bonus is part of broader policies aimed at supporting birth rates and easing the economic burden on families during early childcare stages.
