Total liquidity held by households, enterprises, and other economic operators in Italian bank accounts reached €2,084 billion in February 2026, up about €100 billion from €1,988 billion in February 2025 (+4.8% year on year). According to a study conducted by the Unimpresa Research Center, the annual trend reinforces the consolidation of the recovery phase that commenced in 2025, following the inflationary surge that depleted household and business reserves between 2022 and 2023. Demand deposits, or current accounts, were the most major component, totaling €1,410 billion in February 2026, up €84 billion from €1,325 billion in February 2025, representing a 6.4% rise year on year. This is the most substantial absolute change across all categories, confirming Italians' long-standing preference for readily available liquidity. Current accounts make up 67.6% of overall liquidity, which is nearly unchanged from the previous year's figure of 66.7%. The second largest component is deposits redeemable at notice, which totaled €328 billion in February 2026, an increase of €8 billion from €320 billion in February 2025, or 2.5%.
