Fincantieri and Princess Cruises have signed an agreement for the construction of three new Voyager-class cruise ships, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The deal was signed in Miami during Seatrade Cruise Global, the cruise industry's largest annual event. The ships will be built at Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard in the province of Gorizia, with delivery dates set for 2035, 2038, and 2039. Each ship will have a gross tonnage of around 183,000 tons and a passenger capacity of roughly 4,700. The new ships will be powered mostly by LNG, the most sophisticated fuel technology now available on an industrial scale, capable of achieving an immediate decrease in greenhouse gas emissions and a significant reduction in polluting emissions when compared to traditional marine fuels. Fincantieri recently built two "Sphere" class ships for Princess Cruises at the Monfalcone shipyard: Sun Princess (delivered in 2024) and Star Princess (2025). This new order serves to fortify a partnership that has already resulted in the construction of 21 ships for the Princess Cruises brand at this shipyard over the past 35 years.
