The cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel is "excellent news" and "an important result", obtained in part through US intervention. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made this statement in response to the two countries' 10-day agreement. "It is now imperative that the ceasefire be fully respected", the prime minister highlighted, emphasizing that Hezbollah "bears responsibility for initiating this conflict" and must "cease all actions against Israel and respect the decisions made by the Lebanese government". Meloni then expressed her optimism that the truce will facilitate the success of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, thereby establishing the foundation for a "full and lasting peace". In her speech, the Prime Minister also reaffirmed Italy's dedication to preserving stability in the region: "In this context, Italy will continue to play its part by contributing to peacekeeping along the Blue Line through its military contingent in UNIFIL, the UN mission it commands, and by supporting Lebanese sovereignty, also through strengthening the Lebanese Armed Forces".
