Private-sector employment ended 2025 on a high note. There were 342,000 additional jobs. This number represents the difference in new hiring and terminations over the last twelve months. It is not precarious work: permanent contracts account for 91.5% of the overall increase. In 2025, private sector hires reached 8.31 million, with terminations totaling 7.69 million, a 1.1% decline from the previous year. Conversions from fixed-term to permanent contracts increased (775,000, +1.4%), as did apprenticeship renewals (115,000, +4.4%). "The observatory's data paint an encouraging picture", stated INPS President Gabriele Fava. "The pension system's stability is directly influenced by the quality and continuity of employment. The positive balance of 342,000 jobs and the preponderance of permanent contracts indicate that the labor market is robust and that the pension system is not at risk".
