High gasoline prices are raising the cost of fresh food products, which are heavily reliant on road transport. Assoutenti, which analyzed ISTAT data, confirms this. It explains how the rise in fuel costs, which is partly due to Middle Eastern tensions, is affecting consumer pricing. The most significant increases in food items were observed in eggplants (+21.5% year-on-year), followed by peas (+19.6%) and fruit such as blueberries and raspberries (+16.3%). Courgettes, lemons, strawberries, beans, and tomatoes all had significant increases of double digits or close to 10%. Meat, eggs, and certain vegetables, such as cauliflower and broccoli, are also on the rise. According to the survey, prices for other goods and services are also increasing dramatically. Jewelry is up 33.5%, owing to rising gold prices, while domestic flights are up 12.6% and European flights are up 6%. Pellets and firewood increased in price by 8.2%, as did delivery and courier services (up 6.5%).
