Flavio Cobolli's ATP 500 run in Munich terminated in the final. Ben Shelton overcame the Roman tennis player, winning his seventh career title in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 after nearly an hour and a half of play. The match began with the American dominating the opening set, breaking the Italian's service and taking a 4-0 lead after two straight breaks. Cobolli tried to battle back by creating many break points but was unable to convert them. Despite saving six set points, he had to drop the set 6-2. The second set altered pace and became more evenly matched, with both players holding their serve until 5-5, when Shelton found the decisive break. The American then won the title by defeating his opponent 7-5. However, Cobolli had a wonderful week, having enjoyed an excellent tournament that culminated in a semifinal triumph over Alexander Zverev. "It's been an incredible week", the Italian stated after the match, praising Shelton and thanking the crowd and team. Despite missing out on the trophy, the competition underlines the young Italian's growth.
