Giuseppe Del Deo, former deputy director of Italy’s Department of Security Information (DIS), is under investigation by Rome prosecutors for alleged embezzlement and unauthorized access to confidential data systems. The case involves ten other individuals and is linked to the activities of a suspected clandestine group known as the “Squadra Fiore.”
According to investigators, Del Deo may have mismanaged millions of euros during his tenure at the domestic intelligence agency (AISI), channeling funds to external companies. Intercepted conversations also suggest a possible shortfall of between €7 and €8 million. He is further accused of using restricted intelligence databases for non-institutional purposes.
The “Squadra Fiore,” reportedly active since 2024, is believed to include former members of law enforcement and intelligence services. The group allegedly collected and sold sensitive information to private clients, including business figures and professionals, and carried out illegal wiretapping and surveillance activities.
Del Deo has denied all allegations and announced his self-suspension as executive chairman of Cerved in order to protect the company, which has stated it is not involved in the investigation.
