A minor risks undergoing surgery after being severely burned while traveling on an intercity bus in Veneto. The incident occurred on Thursday morning on a coach departing from Chioggia and heading to Venice. According to preliminary investigations, some seats on the bus were saturated in an unidentified caustic material. Three individuals who sat in those chairs sustained varied degrees of injury. The youngest got third-degree burns to her legs, while another adult passenger sustained minor injuries. A university student going to Ca' Foscari University understood the gravity of the problem when her acid-damaged leggings ripped and her skin began to break. She was then taken to the emergency room of the Ospedale dell'Angelo in Mestre. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by officials. The Chioggia municipal administration and Arriva Veneto transport company announced an investigation, first identifying it as "irritations consistent with a corrosive substance", a definition disputed by the victims’ families. The young woman in question described feeling an increasingly strong burning sensation a few minutes after sitting down, and was initially unable to determine the source. The event calls into question the safety of public transportation and the duties that come with maintenance and inspections.
