Topolino also celebrates the centenary of Turandot's debut. Issue 3674 of the Disney weekly, available on newsstands beginning April 22, pays tribute to Giacomo Puccini with a special story inspired by his final opera, which premiered at La Scala on April 25, 1925. The issue, published by Panini Comics, features the previously unpublished “Uncle Scrooge and the riddles of Turandot", written by Alessandro Sisti and illustrated by Alessandro Perina. The story transports Uncle Scrooge and his nephews to an imaginary China, whose riddles and enigmas evoke the fantasy ambiance of Puccini's opera. Andrea Freccero developed a beautiful cover that completes the homage. The effort is part of the Puccini centennial festivities, which began in 2024, one hundred years after his death, and confirms the ambition to bring music and comics together to introduce new generations to the great classics. Turandot, which was completed by Franco Alfano following the composer's death, is renowned for the princess who confronts her suitors with three riddles and for arias that have become a part of opera history, including "Nessun dorma". The performance was interrupted at the precise moment where Puccini had left the opera unfinished during the premiere at La Scala, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. This special edition of Topolino reinterprets that legacy in a pop and accessible manner, while maintaining its connections to the great Italian operatic tradition.
