An offer from the United States, with the possible industrial cooperation of an Indonesian oil major, has the potential to transform the fate of the ISAB refinery in Priolo (Syracuse), a strategic facility accounting for around 20% of the country's refining capacity. The decision is the result of a substantial investment fund that specializes in energy and infrastructure and is dedicated to long-term strategies. For the time being, the fund's identity remains unknown, but it has revealed that it has already made significant investments in Italy and European energy businesses. The industrial partner is thought to be a significant Indonesian energy company, most notably Pertamina, a state-owned behemoth controlled by the sovereign wealth fund PT Danantara Asset Management. According to MF-Milano Finanza, the American fund has legally issued a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the acquisition of 100% of ISAB to GOI Energy, a Cypriot firm run by Israeli Michael Bobrov that took over ownership of the refinery from Russian giant Lukoil in 2023.
