Biagio De Giovanni, a former MEP for the PCI and PDS, and a prominent figure in culture and civic involvement, died at the age of 95. With a long academic and political career, the intellectual and professor served as a model for generations of scholars and students, thanks to his ability to combine in-depth analysis with public passion. He is the author of over twenty articles and has contributed to the daily newspaper "Il Mattino" for five years, beginning in 2013. He was also a member of the Accademia dei Lincei and a professor emeritus of political philosophy at the Orientale University of Naples, where he served as rector after previously teaching at the universities of Bari and Salerno. His studies concentrated on German idealism, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, and modern political thinking. His view of Hegel focused on the relationship between freedom, history, and institutions, providing useful tools for comprehending democratic difficulties. Biagio was also close friends with Giorgio Napolitano, a fellow party member. "Naples has lost one of its most brilliant sons", stated Cardinal Mimmo Battaglia, the Archbishop of Naples.
