A digital Italian passport may be obtained on the dark web for as low as $35, whereas a physical passport can cost more than $1,500. NordStellar and NordVPN conducted an investigation that analyzed thousands of listings on illicit online marketplaces, which supports this assertion. Italian data is among the most sought-after worldwide, particularly in the form of "fullz", which are complete packages containing personal information such as documents, addresses, and digital credentials. These packages enable criminals to perpetrate fraud, gain access to bank accounts, and steal personal information. The high value of Italian data is due to its relative scarcity and more stringent European security standards, making it more difficult to collect. However, issues such as a limited digital culture and inadequate cybersecurity investments contribute to the country's attractiveness as a target. In 2025, over 2.2 million data theft warnings were registered, indicating that the epidemic is steadily developing and becoming more systematic.
