The main Italian fashion and luxury businesses that dominate the US market, including Armani, Prada, Ferragamo, and Moncler, are mobilizing against the Trump administration's tariffs. Strengthened also by a ruling from the Supreme Court, they are now taking action to recover sums already paid. EssilorLuxottica, which is majority owned by Delfin and controlled by the Del Vecchio family, established an example among Italian companies. EssilorLuxottica filed a case against US Customs and Border Protection (USCB) in the US Court of International Trade in November. The objective is to secure reimbursement for duties that have been paid and are considered to be undue. EssilorLuxottica was immediately joined by Salvatore Ferragamo (January 9th) and Prada (February 17th), both of which filed claims against the United States in the Court of International Trade. A few days later, the Supreme Court's decision, which stated that Trump lacked the authority to impose trade tariffs, also persuaded all other fashion groups to request refunds. The tariff return might cost the US administration $166 billion plus interest.
