Famila Schio are back on top of Italian women’s basketball, defeating Reyer Venezia 70–64 on Sunday night to secure their 14th Serie A1 title.
The victory crowns a remarkable season for the Vicenza-based club, which lost just once across all competitions, finishing with 30 wins and a single defeat, ironically in the opening game of the finals. Schio also completed a stunning domestic treble, having already lifted the Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia.
In recent years, Schio and Venezia have established themselves as the dominant forces in Italian basketball, sharing the last five league titles between them. They are also the only Italian teams competing in the EuroLeague, Europe’s top-tier club competition.
This season, Schio built a strong international roster with the clear ambition of winning that elusive European crown, the only major trophy still missing from their collection. However, their campaign ended in disappointment when they were unexpectedly knocked out in the playoffs by Venezia, who went on to reach the Final Four. The EuroLeague title was ultimately claimed by Fenerbahçe Women's Basketball of Istanbul.
Over the summer, Schio reinforced their squad with three players from the WNBA. Among them was Cecilia Zandalasini, widely regarded as Italy’s top female player, who returned to the club after eight years following spells with the Minnesota Lynx and the Golden State Valkyries.
She was joined by Jessica Shepard and María Conde, adding further international quality to the roster. Meanwhile, teammate Costanza Verona has signed with the Dallas Wings for the 2026 season, becoming only the ninth Italian player in WNBA history.
