E-commerce in Italy remains a major but increasingly selective sector: in 2026, 21,717 new companies entered the digital environment (including approximately 12,000 newly constituted joint-stock companies), while 23,211 businesses that existed in 2025 ceased to exist. According to the Observatory of Italian E-commerce Sites, which was conducted by Netcomm, the Digital Commerce Consortium in Italy, in collaboration with Cribis, a CRIF Group company that offers information, solutions, and consulting to businesses, the total number of Italian companies engaged in e-commerce is 87,000, a 4.4% decrease from 2025. Of these, more than 90% are micro and small firms. Cosmetics (35.3%), the Toy Industry (33.5%), and Publishing (24.7%) are the industries most oriented toward digitization, i.e. those with the highest incidence of e-commerce in relation to the total number of enterprises in their sector.
