Matteo Bonacina, a member of Italy’s Paralympic archery team, has been placed under house arrest on charges of stalking and sexual violence. The measure was ordered as part of an investigation led by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office and carried out by the postal police. The inquiry concerns alleged incidents occurring between 2019 and 2024. According to investigators, the case involves repeated inappropriate behavior toward multiple athletes and a coach, allegedly taking place during training sessions and international competitions. One of the most serious accusations involves an alleged attempted sexual assault during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Investigators claim the athlete entered a competitor’s hotel room and attempted unwanted physical contact, which was reportedly rejected by the victim. This episode is currently under judicial review. Further allegations include the sending of explicit messages, unsolicited intimate images, and sexually explicit remarks, some of which were reportedly directed at minors. Digital evidence such as chats, photos, and messages forms a significant part of the case file. Authorities describe the alleged behavior as repeated over time. The investigation remains ongoing, and under Italian law, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court ruling.
