Sky has filed a compensation lawsuit against TIM and DAZN for Serie A television rights worth up to €1.9 billion. The decision comes after the Antitrust Authority established the presence of a "serious anti-competitive agreement" in the telecoms and pay TV markets in a ruling issued on December 22, 2025 (published January 12, 2026). The dispute concerns TIM and DAZN's agreement to manage Serie A rights for three years, from 2021 to 2024. According to the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza & del Mercato), the deal reduced competition, altering sector dynamics. The infringement was confirmed at all levels of jurisdiction: after the Antitrust Authority's initial ruling on June 28, 2023, appeals were filed before the Lazio Regional Administrative Court (TAR), which were dismissed on May 11, 2024, and the Council of State, which reaffirmed the findings on June 19, 2025. The dispute revolves around the so-called "Deal Memo Distribution", which DAZN and TIM signed in January 2021. This agreement, as per the arbitrators, effectively restricted DAZN's capacity to provide competitive market offers, indirectly benefiting TIMVision and harming other operators, such as Sky.
