In 2025, Italian airlines served more than 229.7 million passengers, representing a 5% increase from 2024. This is the most significant figure in ENAC's 2025 Traffic Data Volume report. Rome Fiumicino Airport reaffirmed its position as the leading airport in terms of passenger traffic, with an estimated 50.9 million passengers and a 22% share of overall traffic. Domestic travel, at 72.5 million passengers (32% of overall traffic), was largely steady from the previous year. Rome Fiumicino remained the leading airport in terms of traffic volume, accounting for 14% of total passengers, or nearly 10 million. International travel increased by 8% over the previous year, reaching 157.2 million passengers (68% of total traffic). The European Union (43% of traffic) is the most traveled region, with Spain leading the way and Rome Fiumicino-Madrid Barajas serving as the primary route. The breakdown of traffic by carrier type reveals that low-cost airlines carried 63% of total passengers, or 145.4 million (+6% vs. 2024), while traditional carriers handled 37%, or 84.3 million passengers (+3% vs. 2024).
