Jannik Sinner continues to rewrite the history of Italian tennis. After one hour and forty-five minutes of play, the world number one defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 to win the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, thereby bringing an Italian back to the triumph in Rome fifty years after Adriano Panatta. The Italian had a rough start to the match, trailing by a break in the first set. Sinner, however, responded with character, quickly regaining his rhythm and precision on serve. At 4-4, he made the decisive break, closing the set 6-4. In the second set, the South Tyrolean champion regained command of the match, breaking the Norwegian again and defending his lead till the conclusion 6-4. For Sinner, this is the ninth Masters 1000 of his career and the sixth consecutive, a result that confirms the extraordinary moment the Italian tennis player is experiencing. Jannik was very emotional at the end of the match, dedicating the triumph to his team and the Roman crowd: "I'm really glad to have returned this trophy back to Italy after fifty years. It was a tough game with a lot of tension, but I'm proud of how I handled it". Sinner praised the entire tournament crew as well as the Foro Italico crowd for creating a memorable atmosphere during the awards ceremony, in front of President Sergio Mattarella and Adriano Panatta. Another significant moment in Italian tennis, with Sinner increasingly representing a new Italian age.
