Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori made history at the Internazionali d'Italia by winning the doubles title in a hard-fought final against Granollers and Zeballos that ended in a super tie-break with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 10-3. For the Italian duo, who were seeded seventh, this was their second Masters 1000 title together after Miami. However, it was more significant than that: it was the first Italian victory in the men's doubles tournament in Rome in 66 years. In front of an electrified Centre Court crowd, the Italians mounted a comeback in the first set, even saving a set point before prevailing in the tie-break. The second set, however, was won by their opponents, which resulted in a final super tie-break that was dominated by Bolelli and Vavassori with great solidity and aggression. At the end of the game, the two Italians were overjoyed. "Winning here is something unique, this trophy belongs to everyone", remarked Bolelli, while Vavassori spoke of "an incredible journey" and an Italy "on top of the world".
