Piedmont, Lombardy, and Liguria account for more than 60% of Italy's aerospace sector revenues, and they have joined forces to increase their international market share. Piedmont is the engine and space infrastructure industrial base, with 35,000 employees and an annual revenue of €8 billion. Lombardy generates €6.3 billion in output, €3 billion in exports, and employs 22,000 people. This company is a world leader in fixed-wing (plane), rotary-wing (helicopter) and satellite manufacturing. Finally, with a revenue of over €1 billion and 5,000 people, Liguria is a market leader in electronics, cybersecurity, and integrated systems. The impetus generated by the space economy and space exploration programs, on the one hand, and the defense industry, on the other, necessitates a scale shift that will accelerate the technological innovation and ability of companies in the various industrial districts to intercept major European programs and play a global industrial role. Hence the arrangement reached recently to produce virtuous production and commercial synergies.
