Mick Jagger has arrived on the island of Stromboli to take part in the filming of Alice Rohrwacher’s new movie, The Three Incestuous Sisters. The Rolling Stones frontman landed by helicopter on Sunday evening after bad weather delayed his arrival by one day. For weeks, the Aeolian island has been transformed into a large open-air film set. Several of Stromboli’s most iconic locations — including the island’s small cemetery — have been closed off to protect the production from curious onlookers and cameras. Despite the international attention surrounding Jagger’s presence, local residents say the rock legend will be welcomed like any other visitor. “He’ll be treated like every guest here, because the island offers everyone the same warm hospitality and tries to make tourists feel at home,” one resident said. The film, based on a graphic novel by Audrey Niffenegger, features Jagger as the keeper of the Strombolicchio lighthouse. His character is the father of Kyo, played by Josh O’Connor, around whom the story’s three sisters revolve. The international cast also includes Jessie Buckley, Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Johnson, Josh O’Connor, and Isabella Rossellini. Although Jagger’s role is expected to be brief, it plays a pivotal part in the narrative. After appearing in the opening scenes, his character dies, setting the story in motion. The British singer’s arrival has already drawn international attention to the Sicilian island once again, reinforcing the enduring connection between Italian auteur cinema and some of the world’s most celebrated artistic figures.
