In 2024, sports tourism in Italy had structural development, with 42 million visitors and an increase in average spending per traveler on hospitality, food, transportation, and experiential activities. These figures are sourced from the Sports System Observatory, which was created by the Research Department of Banca Ifis. Soccer is the sector's primary driver, accounting for the majority of travel and economic value (€7 billion), followed by cycling, racing, and indoor sports. Sports tourism has also proven to be an excellent technique for improving local communities and deseasonalizing tourist flows, having positive effects even in less typically touristic places. International demand has made a considerable contribution, with 556,000 foreign visitors in 2024 and €338 million in consumption generated.
