All boats of the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza were intercepted by the Israeli armed forces during the night between Monday and Tuesday. Twenty-nine Italian citizens and three Italian residents were also on board the humanitarian mission, which is currently detained and heading to the Israeli port of Ashdod. According to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has called for an urgent investigation into Israeli authorities' use of force, following testimony from activists alleging the deployment of rubber bullets against several of the flotilla's vessels. Maria Elena Delia, an Italian spokesperson for the Global Sumud Flotilla, confirmed the interception and stated that at least six boats were hit, including the Italian-flagged "Girolama". The "Karsi-i Sabadab", which carried Five Star Movement MP Dario Carotenuto, journalist Alessandro Mantovani, and activist Ruggero Zeni, was the last vessel to be stopped. Activists publicly refer to a "illegal kidnapping" and accuse Israel of violating international maritime law, claiming that the mission was designed to relieve the siege of Gaza and open a humanitarian channel. The Flotilla used its social media networks to appeal for the participants' prompt release and the lifting of the Strip blockade. In the interim, the legal team of the Israeli organization Adalah is anticipated to arrive at the port of Ashdod to provide support to the volunteers who have been apprehended by Israeli authorities.
