Italy is moving against the global trend: while the global new-build yacht market recorded a 2.1% decline between 2023 and 2025, Italian shipbuilding posted a +5% increase over the same period. Production value is estimated at between 5.4 and 5.5 billion euros in 2025. Luxury yachts are the mainstays. Approximately 70% of Italian production is for large yachts and superyachts, underlining the country's expertise in the high-end part of the industry. Exports are the true strategic lever: around 90% of national output is intended for international markets. On the regulatory front, a crucial new step has recently taken effect: Law No. 111 was published in the Official Journal on May 9, 2026. Law 70/2026, "Enhancement of the Sea Resource", is a comprehensive reform of the Italian maritime sector that has implications for shipbuilding, submarine activities, fisheries, and recreational boating. One of the most tangible modifications is the opportunity for a private individual to lease their yacht to a charter company for commercial purposes during specific seasons of the year. This measure is intended to encourage the acquisition of vessels by reducing their operating expenses.
