Alessandro Del Piero, a guest speaker at the second edition of the Zucchini Award in Pescara, reflected on the evolution of modern soccer and the gradual elimination of the so-called "flagship" players, who spent the majority—if not all—of their careers with the same team. The trophy is named in honor of Vincenzo Zucchini, a legendary Pescara Calcio player who later became a coach and manager. According to Del Piero, this model of belonging is becoming less prevalent. "There are probably fewer examples today than there once were", commented the former Juventus number ten, noting how soccer was vastly different forty years ago from today. "There were far fewer transfers, fewer foreigners, and soccer was experienced in a different way", he remarked, highlighting the closer relationship between player and club at the time. Del Piero, who established a connection between his name and Juventus, becoming one of the club's most internationally recognized symbols, refrained from engaging in nostalgic discourse or making direct criticisms of modern soccer. He believes that constant turnover is unavoidable due to the global market, increased player mobility, and the sector's economic change. "Given today's soccer, it's natural for clubs and players to seek more frequent exchanges, but I wouldn't point too much finger at this reality".
