ITA Airways, the national airline, SEA Milan Airports, the Società Esercizi Aeroportuali (SEA), which manages Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airports, and Comieco, the National Consortium for the Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose-based Packaging, have announced the launch of an initiative to collect and recycle paper used onboard flights to and from Milan Linate and Amsterdam, Paris, and Brussels, strengthening their shared commitment to the circular economy and sustainability. The concept establishes a distinct collection for paper packaging used during onboard services, such as cups and napkins, cardboard packaging, and paper bags. These will be separated from other waste on board and deposited in dedicated bags before being transported to a specific stream for proper treatment and recycling once landed. SEA integrates the new flow into ground operations, from delivering specialized bags to logistics management to sending paper to authorized facilities. Following a five-month pilot phase, the project will be expanded to incorporate additional items collected, in line with the partners' sustainability programs.
