The Italian publishing market rose by 3.8% in the first four months of 2026 compared to the same time in 2025, with 717,000 more copies sold and €16.4 million in additional spending. Public incentives for libraries were responsible for a significant portion of this expansion. Publishers' estimates indicate that approximately €35 million of the €60 million allocated was expended, with 31% of the resources allocated to libraries in Southern Italy. This resulted in a 9% increase in sales in Southern Italy, an 11.3% increase in independent booksellers, and a 4.1% increase in publishers other than large groups.
