Italian tourism is set for a record-breaking summer. According to Demoskopika estimates, 141.2 million arrivals and 478.6 million overnight stays would be recorded in 2026, up 2.1% and 0.4% from the previous year, respectively, for a total spending of €132.7 billion, up 4% from 2025. Significant developments pertain to travelers: domestic demand is regaining momentum following years of decline. Over 213 million overnight stays will be generated by nearly 64.8 million Italians who will select a destination within Italy. Meanwhile, Sardinia and the Amalfi Coast are already completely booked. Actual booking figures for summer 2026 are breaking past norms. Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello are actually overrun by Americans, with 5-star hotels and lovely villas sold out until October. To avoid the congestion of Highway 163, ferries and private boats are becoming increasingly popular modes of transportation. Tourism psychologists refer to the phenomenon as "Revenge Travel 2.0": in an unpredictable world, vacation is no more a luxury, but a need.
