Andrea Kimi Antonelli keeps rewriting the Formula One hierarchy. The young Italian star won his fourth consecutive Grand Prix in Montreal, following triumphs in Shanghai, Suzuka, and Miami, expanding his lead in the world championship standings and establishing his status as the man to beat in the 2026 season. On the Canadian circuit, the all-Mercedes duel with George Russell heated up for over half of the race, with passing, crossing lines, and opposing strategy, but the final turn of events on lap 30 was a dramatic one. Russell, who had been driving aggressively and spectacularly up until that point, was forced to quit owing to a technical issue while entering the circuit’s third chicane. His W17 suddenly came to a halt, forcing him to park on the escape road. The English driver responded angrily, flinging the cockpit cover to the ground in front of the Mercedes crew. FFor Antonelli, from that point onward the race turned into controlled management: low-risk pit stops, measured pace and a victory that was never seriously challenged through to the chequered flag. The Canadian poker allows AKA to expand his championship lead to 131 points over Russell's 88, a 43-point difference that already feels like a world championship runaway coming into the European season. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen both finished on the podium. The seven-time world champion scored his best result since joining Ferrari, overtaking the Dutchman of Red Bull with seven circuits remaining. Charles Leclerc finished fourth, having driven a strong but not particularly fantastic race.
