It's unusual for the Italian government to pause and celebrate a town with only a few hundred inhabitants. And yet, it has happened. On May 24, 2026, the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy presented a definitive stamp to the Municipality of Gifflenga, a town of 110 people in the province of Biella, to honor its 1100th anniversary. The design depicts a perspective of the area with the lake landscape in the foreground, historic buildings, and mountains in the background: an image that emphasizes the community's strong link with its surroundings. This selection exemplifies how Italian philately honors not only big national events, but also locations that reflect the country's diverse cultural history. Gifflenga may be small, but it is impossible to miss.
