Two suspected cases of Ebola have been reported at Milan's Sacco Hospital, where two aid workers returning from Uganda with feverish symptoms were placed in isolation for testing. They are a 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman who have returned from the African country where they had spent three months. The Ministry of Health quickly triggered health monitoring procedures, including those for their family members, who are now being monitored by the appropriate authorities. The two patients were taken to Sacco, a facility that specializes in the treatment of high-risk infectious diseases and has advanced biocontainment measures in place. Malaria, including cerebral malaria, or a gastrointestinal infection are the most probable causes, as indicated by preliminary clinical evaluations. The Welfare Councilor of Lombardy, Guido Bertolaso, also reported this, emphasizing the existence of a family history that would bolster this hypothesis. Due to the proximity of the two aid workers' location in Uganda to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, all necessary preventative steps were taken as per international standards. The Ministry of Health has stated that the risk in Italy remains extremely low, and that the infectious disease response system is fully operating. The test results are due shortly, and they will decide the definitive diagnosis.
