An energy giant is entering the telecommunications market: this is the strategic move Enel is currently implementing. It all started with Lene, the digital company launched by Enel in October 2025 to sell electricity and gas offers entirely online. Now the next step is telecoms. In May 2026, the group initiated a reorganization that will bring Lene Connect into Enel Energia through a partial spin-off of Lene, followed by a merger into its retail subsidiary. The declared purpose is to simplify customer contacts and marketing opportunities. According to company documents, the ultimate outcome will be for Enel Energia to establish itself as a "operator responsible for the integrated provision and management of energy and telecommunications services". This is a significant development, as the arrival of an energy giant with substantial financial resources and an already established sales network is not an unnoticed event, particularly in the virtual operator segment, where margins are frequently extremely tight and price competition is intense. In practice, electricity bills and phone subscriptions may soon be available within the same app. Others (particularly Poste Italiane) are already exploring this convergence, which Enel aims to pursue from a position of significant commercial strength.
