A pre-Roman necropolis was unearthed in the Punta Penna industrial district of Vasto (Abruzzo) during preliminary investigations for the building of a solar system. The Superintendency reported the find, which discovered multiple burials dating from the 5th to 4th centuries BC and confirmed the area's archeological value. Along with the tombs, a structure that has yet to be interpreted was unearthed, and certain artifacts recovered on the surface indicate that the location was also occupied in later eras, up to the Hellenistic-Roman period. According to specialists, the information acquired thus far does not yet allow for final conclusions, but it does bring up possibilities of considerable scientific curiosity. With the initial excavation phase completed, new Ministry of Culture-funded investigations are being planned to define the site's extent and peculiarities while also ensuring its conservation. Meanwhile, the restoration of funerary relics will commence, marking the first step toward studying and cataloging the artifacts. The discovery, which was first kept secret for security reasons, validates the Vasto area's archaeological wealth. Some of the most notable finds will be presented at the new museum at Palazzo d'Avalos, contributing to the enhancement and restoration of local history in the community.
