ITA Airways, the national airline, will accompany Pope Leo XIV on his Apostolic Journey to Spain. The Holy Father's aircraft will depart Rome Fiumicino Airport at 8:00 a.m. on June 6 and land in Madrid (Barajas Airport) at 10:30 a.m. For the occasion, ITA Airways will fly an Airbus A320neo, one of the most sophisticated and fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft capable of offering great operational, economic, and environmental performance. Overall, the A320neo airplane saves 20% on fuel and emits less CO₂ compared to earlier generations. The total crew will be ten people: three pilots and seven flight attendants, plus an ITA Airways staff specialized to special trips. Along with the papal delegation, Pope Leo XIV will be accompanied by representatives of the Italian and international press.
