In 2026, RFI, the Ferrovie dello Stato Group company responsible for managing and developing the national railway infrastructure, plans investments worth 11 billion euros, with 1,300 construction sites currently open. A total of 63% of the funds are designated for major infrastructure initiatives, while the remaining 37% is allocated for maintenance. This sum is consistent with the €11.6 billion spent in 2025 and is part of a 10-year plan worth €100 billion. Furthermore, RFI CEO Aldo Isi revealed that the NRRP plan's objectives had been met. It's an ambitious schedule, but it clashes with everyday reality: extraordinary maintenance work is currently underway between Brescia and Verona, causing significant delays for high-speed and Eurocity trains, and construction sites will be active between Terni and Foligno and Fabriano and Castelplanio until mid-June. In summary, the construction of the network of the future necessitates a degree of patience in the present.
