The paper "The Economic Impact of Mathematical Research in Italy," sponsored by the Italian Mathematical Union and published by Deloitte Economics, was presented at the CNR headquarters in Rome. The study aims to quantify what is frequently underestimated: mathematics' impact on the country's economy. For the first time, it is evident that mathematics is not merely an academic discipline, but a genuine strategic infrastructure for national economic development, competitiveness, and industrial innovation. According to estimations, by 2025, mathematical research and the professions that use its methods and applications would have generated €680.1 billion in added value, accounting for around 34% of the national total and sustaining 8.4 million jobs, or roughly 35% of Italian employment. For every €1 of direct impact, an additional €1.2 is created through indirect and induced channels, resulting in an estimated €296.2 billion in tax revenue.
