Investigations are ongoing into the incident that occurred on Friday evening near the Baths of Caracalla during rehearsals for Italy’s Republic Day parade. Four Rome City Police Department officers are now facing suspension and will not take part in the June 2nd march at the Imperial Forum. Initial investigations indicate that a 51-year-old instructor ignited the fuses of two pyrotechnics displays that were installed in the practice area. Suddenly, one of the displays detonated, causing a state of panic among the horses that were positioned for the military parade simulation. The event injured four riders: three members of the Army's 8th Montebello Lancers Regiment and one from the State Police's mounted force. Fortunately, none of them is in serious condition. The Rome Prosecutor's Office is seeking preliminary information from the Carabinieri and is investigating a number of accusations, including aggravated negligent assault and unlawful dangerous explosions in public places. Investigators are also looking into spontaneous statements made by police on the scene to determine the responsibility and circumstances of the occurrence. Meanwhile, the local police commander, Mario De Sclavis, has reportedly chosen to replace the policemen involved with other colleagues to ensure the smooth operation of the June 2nd celebrations.
