The Amerigo Vespucci's North American Campaign 2026 was officially launched from Genoa's Porto Antico in the presence of key civilian and military institutions: a 156-day voyage between the United States and Canada to promote Italian culture, dialogue, and excellence around the world. According to Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, the operation has strategic and symbolic significance considering the impending celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence. Genoa Mayor Silvia Salis described the sailing ship as "a true floating embassy" for Italy on the global stage. Engineer Francesco Rotundi designed the Amerigo Vespucci, which was launched on February 22, 1931, and delivered to the Royal Navy on May 26, the same year. It was named after the renowned Florentine navigator who gave the American continent its name. It is an 82-meter-long three-masted sailing ship of the Italian Navy with masts that reach 50 meters, carrying roughly 400 crew men and officer cadets from the Naval Academy in Livorno. Since 1931, it has trained generations of officers and instilled principles of Italian culture, professionalism, and competence at all ports.
