A new bond between the two sides of the Atlantic is taking shape under the skies of Capri. The Italian municipality and the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) have signed a memorandum of agreement that aims to turn history, identity, and tradition into a shared future of cultural exchange and partnerships. The agreement intends to establish a long-term relationship between the municipality and the American organization dedicated to promoting Italian heritage around the world. Cultural, educational, and institutional initiatives are planned to strengthen the dialogue between Italy and the United States. "It's the beginning of a love story", said Capri Mayor Paolo Falco, recalling how Italian immigration has contributed to America's growth by staying connected to their roots. John F. Calvelli, chairman of the NIAF, echoed this sentiment, calling the agreement "just the beginning of a bridge" between the two countries. During the signing, the "Capri-NIAF Award", which recognizes Italians and Italian-Americans who have excelled in cultural promotion, was also presented. The trophy, designed by sculptor Dante Mortet, depicts the Mediterranean's millennia-long history, from its Greek and Roman roots to the present day. Making the day even more symbolic was the presence of Ida Di Pinto, who emigrated to the United States and returned to Capri for her centenary: "I have lived two lives, one here and one in America", she said. A life that wonderfully captures the essence of this new bridge between realms.
