Silvio Baldini's youthful Italy continued its positive run with a second straight 1-0 victory, following up the win over Luxembourg by edging past Greece in another encouraging performance. Pio Esposito once again proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the winning goal in the 18th minute with a right-footed strike from inside the box that took a deflection and wrong-footed goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. Compared to the previous friendly, Baldini made only two changes to the starting lineup, sticking with the core of a team that continues to display confidence, discipline, and a clear tactical identity. One of the newcomers, Ekhator, set up Esposito's goal, while the striker celebrated his second match-winning contribution in just a few days. Italy controlled the first half without allowing Greece any significant chances and nearly doubled the lead after the break when Koleosho hit the crossbar. The match took a dramatic turn in the 68th minute, however, as substitute Reggiani was sent off just thirteen minutes after coming on for bringing down Douvikas, leaving the Azzurri with ten men. Greece pushed hard for an equaliser and came agonisingly close when Zafeiris struck the post with a powerful effort. Despite the pressure, Italy held firm and almost scored again through Favasuli, whose attempt was brilliantly saved by Vlachodimos. The victory further underlines the progress of Baldini's squad. After the disappointment of missing out on World Cup qualification, this young generation has restored enthusiasm and optimism, sending a clear message that Italian football has a promising foundation on which to build.
