Prada has taken its expertise beyond the world of fashion and into space technology. In New York, the Italian luxury brand unveiled the new Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG), the inner layer of a next-generation spacesuit developed in partnership with Axiom Space for future Artemis lunar missions. The new system is expected to be used during Artemis IV, scheduled for 2028, when astronauts will return to explore the Moon's South Pole. In one of the harshest environments imaginable, where temperatures can vary by as much as 400 degrees between sunlit and shadowed areas, the suit is designed to provide both protection and comfort. The LCVG represents a major technological step forward. In addition to regulating body temperature, it features an advanced ventilation system that delivers fresh oxygen to the astronaut's helmet while helping remove carbon dioxide during extravehicular activities. According to Axiom Space CEO Jonathan Cirtain, the project highlights how the future of space exploration depends on collaboration between different industries. By combining aerospace engineering with Prada's expertise in advanced materials, the partnership has produced a highly innovative solution. Prada's Chief Marketing Officer Lorenzo Bertelli also stressed that the company contributed years of research and technological development, including experience gained through the Luna Rossa sailing project. Although the initiative was not created with a direct commercial objective, it could open the door to new opportunities and demonstrate how fashion technology can play a role in some of humanity's most ambitious challenges.
