Pope Leo XIV's pastoral visit to Madrid ended with record attendance. Over a million people attended the Corpus Christi Mass in Plaza de Cibeles, which was closed once it reached capacity. Also present were King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia. During his sermon, the Pope encouraged the faithful to transcend beyond "a comfortable and private faith", reminding them that "Christ is in the poor, the sick, and the marginalized". Pope Leo XIV underlined the importance of Corpus Christi processions, calling them more than just a folk tradition, but a tangible manifestation of God's presence in people's lives. Following institutional appointments and discussions with culture and civil society, the Pontiff will go to Barcelona, his penultimate destination in Spain.
