The Rome Prosecutor's Office has opened a probe into Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in connection with the detention of Global Sumud Flotilla members last May. Prosecutors claim that torture and kidnapping were committed during the boarding of the vessels and the subsequent detention of the humanitarian mission's participants, which included Italian citizens. The probe revolves around a video made by Ben-Gvir himself, filmed at the port of Ashdod, in which he appears beside the arrested activists and addresses them with what investigators consider mocking words. The Prosecutor's Office has gathered statements from participants and video footage to recreate the operation's details. The investigation is part of a larger investigation by the Roman judiciary concerning the Flotilla's operations to Gaza. The incident involves an expedition that left Sicily on April 26 and was stopped, according to the activists' complaint, in international waters near Crete. The request for judicial cooperation will now be sent to Israeli authorities.
