On June 8th, World Oceans Day, the Ocean Challenge 2026 was launched by Ogyre, an Italian firm situated in Bogliasco (Genoa). The goal is to gather 40,000 kg of marine and coastal debris in a single month, and over 60 companies have already accepted the joint challenge. Ogyre's model is as simple as it is effective: with fleets in Italy, Indonesia, Brazil, and Senegal, the network has already helped clean the seas and coasts of nearly 1.5 million kg of waste, employing over 120 local fishermen on its vessels and paying daily wages three times the minimum wage. This means that the fisherman become protagonists of the solution rather than participants in the problem. The project is progressively increasing, from approximately 14,000 kg gathered in 2024 to 28,000 kg in 2025. This year, the ambition has been doubled again. The staked amount, 40 tons, is equivalent to the weight of four million half-liter plastic bottles. Luna Rossa, Panerai, Feltrinelli, and AS Roma have all shown their support for the project.
