Despite weakening global demand and foreign market concerns, Italy's textile and clothing sector remains a cornerstone of the national industry. This is according to the "The State of Fashion" report, which Confindustria Moda presented in Milan. In 2025, the sector's turnover was €58.39 billion, a 2.4% decrease from the previous year, with exports totaling more than €36 billion and a trade deficit of €10.4 billion. The supply chain employs 37,331 enterprises and 372,200 workers, making up 9.5% of Italian manufacturing employment. Italy remains the biggest European producer in the sector, accounting for over 30% of total EU output, as well as the second-largest European exporter and the fifth-largest globally. However, the situation remains challenging: the closing of the Strait of Hormuz at the end of February has drastically altered the scenario, hampering recovery forecasts for the end of 2025.
