A carefully planned robbery carried out in broad daylight and in the style of a cinematic heist. Some of the world's finest bottles of wine, totaling around €280,000, were stolen in Milan. The robbery occurred at L'Affinatore, a restaurant famous among wine connoisseurs for its excellent wine selection and recognized by the specialized journal Wine Spectator. The restaurant uploaded images on its social media channels of two individuals dressed as workers, wearing hard hats and high-visibility vests, approaching the eatery's window. The presence of a work site on the same street would have helped the burglars evade attention. After breaking two holes in the shatterproof glass, the burglars stole several bottles of Romanée-Conti and placed them in a work bag before fleeing. The alarm was instantly activated, alerting the restaurant's management and security officers. However, by the time security came, the offenders had already fled. The restaurant has indicated that it is certain that the culprits will be caught, and has undertaken a number of initiatives to prevent the stolen bottles from being sold. The serial numbers of the stolen bottles will be made public, making them easier to identify and far more difficult to sell on the global collector wine market. Romanée-Conti is regarded as one of the most rare wines in the world. This wine, made from Pinot Noir grapes in a small area of French Burgundy, is highly valued and rare due to its limited production. Some vintages have fetched record prices at international auctions, transforming these bottles not only into emblems of winemaking excellence but also into viable financial opportunities. For this reason, they are becoming a more appealing target for specialist crime groups.
