Vacations should be a time to unwind and recharge, but for many Italians, the line between work and leisure has become increasingly muddled. Smartphones, email, and messaging platforms are constantly connected to the business, making it tough to really disengage, even on vacation. According to a Pool Pharma Research Center survey, nine out of ten Italians read work-related messages or SMS at least once every day while on vacation. However, this common practice has the potential to undermine the break's psychological and physical benefits. The proliferation of digital technology has fundamentally altered the way we operate. The capacity to respond to an email or engage in a company conversation at any time has enhanced flexibility, but it has also eroded the distinction between professional and personal life. As a result, holiday destinations change, whereas employment availability frequently remains constant. Experts warn that even a fast glance at notifications might reawaken attention and stress systems. Each incoming information causes the brain to focus on responsibilities, deadlines, and incomplete tasks, preventing the body from entering a real healing period. This permanent on-call state can have an influence on people's well-being. Difficulty relaxing, a sense of constant pressure, and an inability to truly unplug can all raise the risk of mental weariness and limit the effectiveness of vacation. More and more businesses are tackling this issue by implementing policies that support the so-called "right to disconnect", which limits communication outside of working hours or during absences. This cultural shift tries to promote rest as an essential component of productivity.
