The Locarno Film Festival will honor Asia Argento, one of the most original and eccentric figures in contemporary European cinema, by honoring her with the Life Achievement Award on Thursday, August 13, on the Piazza Grande stage. An actress, director, and musician, the daughter of horror master Dario Argento has built an international career spanning both arthouse cinema and mainstream productions. She began acting as a child in "Trauma", directed by her father. Over the years, she has appeared in films ranging from "Queen Margot" by Patrice Chéreau to "xXx" alongside Vin Diesel, as well as "Land of the Dead" by George A. Romero and "Marie Antoinette" by Sofia Coppola. She has also distinguished herself as a filmmaker with films like "Scarlet Diva", "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things," and "Misunderstood". Argento will present Jorge Thielen Armand's acclaimed film "La Muerte No Tiene Dueño", which was featured in the Directors' Fortnight at the recent Cannes Film Festival. In her response to the award, artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro described Asia Argento as an artist "who has consistently demonstrated the ability to challenge the status quo, interrogating herself and taking personal risks". Nazzaro asserts that her "radical artistic vocation" has enabled her to investigate "the limits and possibilities of cinema, both as a performer and as a director," embodying "a vital and generous restlessness" that effectively embodies the potential of cinema.
